Windscreen Repair: Why Chip Size Is Not the Only Factor

A chip smaller than a coin is not automatically repairable. The damage type, location, depth, contamination and the condition of the glass can affect whether a specialist recommends repair or replacement.

MSIG’s 2023 campaign FAQ described damage of 40 mm or less as generally repairable within that campaign, while also making cases subject to inspection and the repairer’s recommendation. That dated, insurer-specific criterion should not be treated as a universal rule. Ask a windscreen specialist to inspect the actual damage.
